High-quality coffee maker from France

Why French Press?

The French press was probably invented in France around 1850. However, it was patented in 1929 by the Italian Attilio Calimani, after he had spent years improving the press. Since then, coffee lovers all over the world have enjoyed their coffee from the French press. The French press owes its name to its design. Unlike other methods, the French press uses a metal plunger with a sieve to separate the coffee and grounds, rather than filter paper.

French Press mit Kaffeetasse

Enjoy aromatic coffee in just a few steps

Preparing coffee with a French press is simple and straightforward. This full immersion coffee maker takes just a few steps. All you need, besides a French press, is hot water and coffee. Unlike the pour-over method, this method doesn't require a paper filter.

We recommend grinding your coffee fresh in a coffee grinder before preparing it. A slightly coarser grind is best for this. It's best to weigh the perfect amount beforehand using precision scales. Then pour the ground coffee into the pot and fill it with hot water. The water should have a temperature of around 95°C. Then simply stir the coffee to ensure the grounds are evenly distributed. After a short rest period of around four minutes, insert the plunger with the metal sieve and press it slowly and evenly towards the grounds. Pay particular attention to the brewing time so that your coffee is not over- or under-extracted. As soon as you have pressed the plunger down completely, you can pour your coffee into the cup and enjoy.

The result is an aromatic coffee with a full body, as this preparation method does not filter out the fats and oils contained in the coffee through the metal sieve.

Questions & Answers

How do you make coffee with a French press?

With a coffee press, you can enjoy delicious coffee in just a few minutes with little effort. All you need to do is grind your coffee, pour it into the pot, and add hot water. After a short brewing time of around four minutes, simply press the plunger down slowly and evenly, and you're ready to enjoy your coffee. A particularly practical feature is that this preparation method has a short brewing time and doesn't require a paper filter. The plunger, equipped with a metal sieve, separates the coffee grounds from the coffee. This prevents oils and fats from being filtered out, giving the coffee from the coffee press a somewhat stronger and more intense flavor. Therefore, a medium to coarse grind is recommended for this preparation. If there is still some coffee in the pot after pouring a cup of coffee, you should transfer it to another container to stop the brewing process. Leaving it in the coffee maker will result in a bitter coffee.

How many teaspoons per 1 liter of French press?

With this preparation method, approximately 60-65 g of coffee is recommended for 1 liter of water. A heaped tablespoon holds approximately 10 g, while a special coffee spoon holds 7-12 g. Therefore, we recommend using a suitable precision scale to measure the coffee powder.

Which grind size should I choose for the French press?

For brewing in a French press, you should choose a medium to coarse grind. This ensures a slow and even extraction, resulting in a particularly intense coffee. However, how coarsely you grind your coffee beans also depends on how long you let it brew. The ideal brewing time for this brewing method is four minutes.
